The Black Friday shopping event is back, and in 2026, you will again be able to enjoy discounts of up to 90%. Black Friday always takes place on a Friday, and this time it falls on soon. However, most Czech, Slovak, and international online stores offer Black Friday deals well in advance, often starting several weeks early, so don't hesitate and start shopping in online stores.

Black Friday originated in the USA, specifically in Philadelphia, as early as 1966. It all began the day after Thanksgiving. The name Black Friday has its origins in accounting, as profits were recorded in black ink and losses in red ink. Since the two days following Thanksgiving are holidays in the USA, retailers took advantage of this; shops remained open, and for the first time, dramatic price reductions began. The event was a massive success, and for the first time that year, accounting records in stores began to be written in black instead of red. Hence the name Black Friday. Since then, this day has been known as the busiest shopping day of the year. Black Friday was gradually adopted by more retailers and today is perceived as the day of the biggest discounts and massive promotions, as well as the start of the Christmas shopping fever—not only in the Czech Republic but worldwide. However, many retailers tend to exploit this day and, for incomprehensible marketing reasons, start their promotions two weeks or even a month in advance. This shows a true misunderstanding of the day's core principles, causing Black Friday to lose its impact.
