Extension knives boast a rich heritage in the realm of hunting. When folded, the handle conceals precisely half of the cutting edge, while the remaining half extends beyond the handle. This design allows the knife to excel in all ‘red work’ tasks such as gutting, skinning, and chopping. Once unfolded, the blade length is perfect for capturing a wounded game animal, a scenario that, thankfully, is quite rare. Extension knives feature a locking mechanism in both the open and closed positions. Legally, these knives are classified as folding knives, which means there is no restriction on the blade length of 12 cm, unlike fixed blades. The Boker Plus Extension Knife, which locks securely but requires two-handed operation to open, can be carried freely under § 42a of the German Weapons Act, despite its impressive blade length of 18.5 cm. The Boker Plus Extension Knife stands out as one of the few, if not the only, modern interpretations of an extension knife. Designer and constructor Wilfried Hein, though not widely recognized, is exceptionally inventive in crafting unique technical solutions. Throughout his dynamic career, he has primarily advised various German authorities on weapon technology requirements and spearheaded numerous detailed developments. The Extension Knife features a robust and hefty D2 blade that locks with a substantial cross bolt in both open and closed states. The cross bolt can also be screwed into the handle without tools for enhanced durability, whether fully extended or shortened. This design necessitates two-handed operation, making it a quintessential two-handed knife. The handle, crafted from two thick steel plates and milled G10, offers a contemporary twist on the double-T handles of the Baselards from the 14th and 15th centuries. For added versatility, the knife includes a durable striking spike at the handle's end. It comes with a custom-fitted Kydex sheath for secure storage and transport.
