In the 15th and 16th centuries, the Swiss dagger, also known as baselard, was used as a common weapon by Swiss pikemen and replaced knives and swords due to its blade length. The blade with double-edged edge is made of exceptional Damascus steel with a mosaic pattern. Unlike conventional Damascus, no layers are produced in the production of Mosaic Damask. Instead, complex Damascus bars are forged by hand into a mosaic in an elaborate and very complicated process. For this purpose, the Damascus package, which originally consists of stacked layers, is cut and reassembled in an alternating manner to create a unique mosaic pattern on the end surfaces of the bar. The damask is then cut again and the complex process is repeated several times, with the resulting pattern becoming finer and more unique with each step. This extremely demanding forging process, which only a few blacksmiths master, has brought our Swiss dagger to perfection by Chad Nichols. The characteristic feature of the Swiss dagger is the design of the head and guard. The unusual design can be traced back to the beginning of the 13th century and can also be found in the authentic design of our handcrafted edition. The shiny dark handle made of hand-collected certified imported ebony is bordered by a highly polished head and guard, forming a perfect unit with the blade. The leather sheath, specially designed and hand-stitched for this model, emphasizes the exclusivity of this sought-after collector's item. It comes with an individual serial number in an exclusive wooden box and a certificate of authenticity.
