Originally an agricultural tool, the Dadao sword with a long handle and a strong blade meant for chopping was a favorite weapon of the peasant militias. It found wide use in the army and in the 20th century became a common weapon and symbol of the Chinese army and police. Even a nationalist marching song, the Dadao March, was composed in memory of the anti-Japanese resistance in the Second Sino-Japanese War. This sword has a sharp blade made of polished carbon steel 1075. The full tang construction gives the sword the necessary strength for chopping. The handle is made of hard wood.
