When open, it is secured by a Slipjoint spring mechanism.  It features a 4-step opening mechanism: a unique feature from Manly. The blade does not open smoothly, but "steps" through four positions. At each position (approximately every 45 degrees), the knife clicks softly and offers resistance. This is a safety feature to prevent the knife from accidentally opening or closing too quickly. The handle is made of black G10, that is a composite material made of glass fibre and synthetic resin. With its subtle texture, G10 feels great in hand and offers plenty of grip.
