The Colichemarde weapon appeared during the decline of heavy rapiers and the rise of small swords. With its uniquely shaped blade, which was exceptionally wide at the guard and dramatically tapered to a very narrow point towards the tip, it was able to withstand even the heaviest weapons but remained light enough for lightning-fast attacks.
