The ESEE JG5-BM is an exceptional outdoor knife, crafted by James Gibson. His design draws inspiration from the renowned Nessmuk knife, originally conceived by outdoor writer George Washington Sears, known by his pen name, Nessmuk. This knife features a Drop Point blade with a plain edge and flat grind, crafted from Stonewash black oxide finished carbon steel 1095. The spine of the blade is sharpened at a right angle, making it effortless to use with a firesteel.While 1095-carbon steel offers excellent edge retention, it is not highly resistant to corrosion. It tends to discolor quickly when exposed to moisture, salt, or acid. To maintain its condition, clean the knife after use and occasionally apply a drop of oil. Over time, 1095 steel develops a patina, which enhances its resistance to corrosion. The handle is constructed from brown sculpted Burlap Micarta, a composite material made from linen and synthetic resin. Upon close inspection, you can notice a subtle texture on the surface, giving it an almost wood-like appearance. This material is both strong and stable, providing an excellent grip. The JG5 is accompanied by a stitched brown leather "pouch" sheath with a belt loop for convenient carrying.
