The ESEE JG5 is an exceptional outdoor knife crafted by James Gibson. His design draws inspiration from the renowned Nessmuk knife, originally conceptualized by the outdoor writer George Washington Sears, who wrote under the pseudonym Nessmuk. This knife features a Drop Point blade with a plain edge and flat grind, crafted from black oxide finished carbon steel 1095. The spine of the blade is sharpened at a right angle, making it perfect for striking a firesteel with ease.1095-carbon steel is known for its lack of corrosion resistance. It tends to discolor rapidly when exposed to moisture, salt, or acid. Therefore, it's important to clean the knife after each use and occasionally apply a drop of oil. Over time, 1095 steel develops a patina, which enhances its resistance to corrosion. The handle is constructed from brown sculpted Micarta, a composite material made from linen and synthetic resin. This material is incredibly strong, lightweight, and offers an excellent grip. The textured cut-outs in the handle ensure a comfortable and secure hold. The JG5 is accompanied by a stitched brown leather "pouch" sheath with a belt loop for convenient carrying.
