The ESEE Gibson Axe is a compact camping axe designed by James Gibson. This blacksmith from Knobcreek Forge has created many prototypes of this axe. The result is a compact axe that easily fits into a backpack. It is practical as a bushcraft axe or for chopping wood for a campfire. The ESEE Gibson Axe is made of a thick piece of 1095 carbon steel. The axe head has a 6.7 cm blade. Thanks to the large "beard" of this blade, you will have greater control over the axe when placing your hand on the handle. Ideal for carving purposes and other more precise work with the axe. The 1095 carbon steel is easy to sharpen even with limited resources. However, you need to be careful of rust: 1095 is not corrosion-resistant. Therefore, it is recommended to clean it after use and occasionally add a drop of oil. The handle is made of micarta, a composite material. It is incredibly strong and offers sufficient grip, ideal for the axe handle. Designer James Gibson customizes the handles of his knives with a random sawing pattern. He followed the same process with the handle of the ESEE Gibson Axe. This customization provides slightly better grip. The ESEE Gibson Axe comes with a leather sheath to protect the sharp blade.
