The ESEE JG5-LM is an exceptional outdoor knife, crafted by James Gibson. His inspiration for this knife came from the renowned Nessmuk knife, originally designed by the outdoor writer George Washington Sears, who wrote under the pseudonym Nessmuk. The blade features a Drop Point design with a plain edge and flat grind, crafted from Stonewash black oxide finished carbon steel 1095. The spine of the blade is sharpened at a right angle, making it effortless to use with a firesteel.1095-carbon steel is not highly corrosion-resistant. It tends to discolor quickly when exposed to moisture, salt, or acid. Therefore, it's important to clean the knife after use and occasionally apply a drop of oil. Over time, 1095 steel develops a patina, which enhances its resistance to corrosion. The handle is made from burgundy sculpted Linen Micarta, a composite material of linen and synthetic resin. Upon close inspection, you can notice a subtle texture on the surface, giving it an almost wood-like appearance. This material is robust, stable, and offers excellent grip. The JG5 is accompanied by a stitched brown leather "pouch" sheath with a belt loop.
