This model is an upsized version of the renowned Stretch 2, featuring a blade that is approximately 1 cm longer and an overall length that is 2 cm longer when open. This makes the Stretch 2 XL ideal for those who prefer a larger knife. The design is crafted by Sal Glesser, the founder of Spyderco. The blade boasts a Modified Clip Point shape with a plain edge and full flat grind, crafted from Satin finished CPM-SPY27 steel. This steel is known for its exceptional edge retention, ensuring aggressive cuts over extended periods. It is also easy to sharpen, highly resistant to corrosion, and contains a significant 14% chromium content. The thumb hole allows for effortless one-handed opening, and once open, the robust Backlock mechanism secures the blade, preventing accidental closure during use. The handle is constructed from high-traction Bi-Directional Texture patterned Cobalt Blue FRN (Fibre-Reinforced Nylon). This material is a type of plastic made from nylon, reinforced with glass fibers for enhanced strength and durability.
